Campaign Manager - Campaign Dashboards

Applying Dimensions

Apply dimensions to a grid to drill down into campaign data.

Procedure

  1. Click the icon.
  2. Click the add button in the Add Dimension field. A list of dimensions are displayed.
  3. Select the required dimension from the following list:

Option Description
By Day, By Hour, By Month, By Week

This is the calendar date/time. It returns a new row for every unique hour, day, week, month.

It can be used to work out precisely when something happened, for example a spike in Bounce rate during a particular hour can be traced to a hardware failure or getting your sending IP blacklisted by Spamhaus.

Filtering a two week period and grouping by 'Day' returns 14 separate days, by week two separate weeks, by hour 336 separate hours and so on.

CampaignCategory

CampaignCategory can be used in a number of ways depending on the naming convention used in the document explorer folder structures for example:

  • A user saves campaigns in their own folder. This can then be used to report by user.
  • A different folder is used for each brand held by the company. This can then be used to report by brand.

CampaignName The campaign name. This column doesn't have to be unique, so will show campaigns with the same or similar names. Use an additional dimension, for example StartDateTime, in order to differentiate between them.
CampaignState The campaign status, for example Active and Paused.
CreativeName The name of the creative. Use this to compare the success of creatives in terms of positive measures for example clicks and click to open rate, or negative measure, for example complaints and unsubscribes.

In Email Manager, this will be the same as the Campaign Name, so wouldn't be used.

Day of Week, Hour of Day, Month of Year.

Groups together all events that have taken place on a particular day of the week, hour of the day, month of the year for example all events that have taken place on a Monday - any Monday.

These dimensions help to answer questions such as:

  • What time of day do people tend to open emails?
  • Which day of the week results in best click rates?

Domain The recipients email domain, that is what is to the right of the @ in the email address for example gmail.com.
OperatingSystem The recipients Operating System. Useful for working out if recipients are opening emails on their phones, tablets or PCs. This insight is useful when planning future campaigns and creatives.
StartDateTime The start time of the campaign or email deployment. It can be used to uniquely identify campaigns because campaigns and EM deployments are deployed synchronously - so this date value will always be unique.
WebBrowser The recipient web browser and version number. It can be used to suppress recipients from receiving emails that include rich media because older browsers may not be able to display it.

  1. Reorder the dimensions, if required, by the use of drag and drop.
  2. Delete dimensions by clicking the delete icon.
There must always be at least one dimension selected.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow in the first column of the grid to display the selected dimensions
Note:

Up to four dimensions can be used at any one time. If an email event is received that relates to a campaign that no longer exists in the system, the event will be shown in the grid with the name <unknown>.
